In support groups, people discover they are not alone. They learn from the knowledge and experience of others, and receive encouragement, support, and suggestions for dealing with difficult situations. Support groups are a place to share our knowledge and feelings in order to help others.
Common topics include:
- Therapy decisions
- Physical effects of the disease and its treatment
- Dealing with a complex healthcare system
- Feelings about dependency, disability, and end of life
- How to live a full life despite limitations
- The effects of cancer on family and friends
- Attitudes, philosophies, and beliefs about cancer and its treatment
