Smoking Cessation Clinic

Tobacco is addictive, but kicking the habit is a little easier with the help of Norris Cotton Cancer Center's Smoking Cessation Clinic. The clinic is open to anyone over the age of 18 who wants to end their dependence on tobacco.

The clinic begins with a one-hour initial visit that determines the smoker's history of tobacco use, prior quit attempts, medical history, as well a physical exam. This thorough examination of a person's smoking habits also addresses the concerns about quitting, and includes a review of medications that are availble to help a person quit.

Ongoing sessions provide a supportive approach to quitting without judgement or blame, offer motivation, and assist in modifying behavior, assessing progress, and coping with withdrawal. "Quitting is hard to do," says Wendye DiSalvo, MS, ARNP who runs the clinic. "It takes real dedication to give up tobacco, and it's especially difficult to do alone. That's why we're here."

For more information about the Smoking Cessation Clinic, call the Thoracic Oncology Department at (603) 650-6344. Hours are on Fridays from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. The initial visit costs $55 and ongoing visits are $35. Check with Medicare or your insurance provider to see if you are covered.

The Smoking Cessation Clinic is part of the APN Cares Clinic program.
