| Dr. Perez did his undergraduate work at Kent State University and he received his M.D. in 1985 from Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine. Dr. Perez completed his residency at the Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in 1988, and in 1992 he completed his oncology fellowship from Fox Chase Cancer Center. From 1992 to January 1998 Dr. Perez was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Roswell Park Cancer Center. He joined the DMS in February 1998 as an Associate Professor of Medicine and oncologist for the GI Program. |
| Dr. Perez's areas of research have included: molecular determinants of sensitivity to anticancer drugs (particularly cisplatin, currently focusing on P53 and BCL2-family interactions), early drug development (primarily platinum-based phase I trials), detection of minimal residual melanoma in peripheral blood by RT-PCR, and deletion of specific sequences by thermostable DNA polymerases. |
